Photography Artist Statement
I have always loved stories. The stories my parents read to me as a child, curled up in their laps; the stories I listened to on long car rides across Wyoming’s wind-blown prairie; the stories I starred in as I imagined myself in new worlds and new roles. My work as a writer/literary artist emerged from this love of stories during my youth. More recently, I have been inspired to transcend words. With a camera lens, I aim to compose images that also tell stories. Much like my literary work, my photographic stories are rooted in relationships–relationships with people and with the natural world. As a photographer, I have found that these relationships and their visual depictions have the power to help us better understand, navigate, and narrate our own entangled and storied lives.
